In the left foreground, an artist is seated behind an easel and a woman is standing next to him. There is a waterfall beyond and a town on a wooded hilltop, with a large ruined building lower down the hill beyond. In the middle distance two figures are silhouetted against a valley. There are thick woods to the right and an extensive landscape in the distance.
