Biographical Details
Iolo Aneurin Williams was a notable Welsh bibliophile, writer, journalist and collector of works on paper, whose Wilsons included the following drawings, all now at Yale Center for British Art, Paul Mellon Collection, New Haven:
D61 The Cascade at Terni
D95 Three Figures standing by rocky Cliffs, two Horsemen in the Distance
D233 Sculpted Plinth in the Villa Medici (Ancient Altar in the Villa Medici)
D246 Ruined Temple of Minerva, Two Figures on River Bank

From 1937 he served as the Museums Correspondent of The Times and in 1952 published his monumental book, Early English Watercolours, which listed and discussed the work of over 600 British draughtsmen. In 1960 he gave the British Museum a group of 24 drawings by English artists from his collection and on his death bequeathed a further 65. A further 40 of his drawings were sold by his family at Sotheby's on 31 March 1999.
