Biographical Details
James Hughes Anderdon of 23, Upper Grosvenor Street, London and West Pennard, Somerset was a partner in the bank, Bosanquet Anderdon. He was an extensive collector and amateur in the old-fashoioned sense of the word, who donated a number of works of art, books and letters to the Royal Academy in 1875 and to the British Museum. His posthumous sale took place at Christie's, 30-31 May 1879, and included nine paintings by or attributed to Wilson (lots 265-273). Among these was P146A The White Monk - III (probably lot 273 An Italian River Landscape with Figures, which sold for £65).
