Adrian Bury, artist, writer and poet, was born Albert Buhrer in London, the son of a sculptor and bronze caster and nephew of the sculptor, Alfred Gilbert. In 1914, he studied at the Académie Julian and Atelier Colarossi in Paris. He began work as a freelance writer and cartoonist, with the Sunday Pictorial in 1920. He exhibited mainly landscapes at the Chelsea Arts Club, Royal Academy (1937-1963), Leger Galleries and Royal Watercolour Society, whose Club's annual volume he edited for some years. As well as publishing his own poetry he wrote books on artists, including Francis Towne and Alfred Gilbert.
