Biographical Details
Samuel William Reynolds was a mezzotinter and occasional portrait and landscape painter, who was apprenticed to C.H. Hodges and taught the mezzotinters Samuel Cousins and David Lucas. He exhibited at the R.A. 1797-1827 and in Paris 1825-28, showing several mezzotints at the Salon of 1827. A catalogue raisonné of his work was published by Alfred Whitman in 1903. His mezzotints after Wilson (E73, E74 and other impressions) are represented at the British Museum; National Museum Wales, Cardiff; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge; and Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery.
