Field Marshall the Rt Hon. Frederick Lambart, 10th Earl of Cavan, KP, GCB, GCMG, GCVO, GBE, DL was a British Army officer and Chief of the Imperial General Staff. He served in the Second Boer War, retired from the Army in 1913 but was recalled at the start of First World War and held posts of command at the First Battle of Ypres in October and the Battle of Festubert in May 1915. Promoted to major-general, he took part in the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and was appointed a Knight of the Order of St Patrick in November that year. He became Commander-in-Chief of British forces on the Italian Front in March 1918 and led the Tenth Army which struck a decisive blow at the critical Battle of Vittorio Veneto.

Following the War, hiis first appointment was as Lieutenant of the Tower of London, after which he became ADC to the King in 1920 and Chief of the Imperial General Staff in February 1922, retiring in 1926. Promoted to field marshal in 1932, he took part in the procession for the funeral of King George V in January 1936 and commanded the troops at the procession for the coronation of King George VI on 12 May 1937. His London address was 32 Prince's Gardens, London SW7.

Cavan is known to have owned at least two pictures by or attributed to Wilson including P143A Tivoli: Temple of the Sibyl and the Campagna - II, Private Collection, North America.
