Vol. 14:1, pp. 1-21. This article reassesses Zuccarelli's career in England from his arrival in the autumn of 1752: 'No other Italian painter coming to England in the eighteenth century enjoyed such fame as Zuccarelli. Unlike most of those who came, he was positively welcomed, highly honoured and fully employed. A first visit lasted for ten years and after a brief absence he was back again for some six more. A founder-member of the Royal Academy, a friend of Richard Wilson and an acquaintance at least of many other painters, Zuccarelli seemed almost a permanent part of the English artistic scene in the middle of the century'.
