More Information
Peter Pindar, whose real name was John Wolcot, trained as a physician and clergyman before moving to London in 1780 and making his name as author and satirist. Among his first targets were members of the Royal Academy and in his Lyric Odes he referred to Wilson's tragic decline in his later years but foresaw correctly that his works would be back in fashion a hundred years after his death.
