More Information
The book's full title is Some Account of the Life of Richard Wilson Esq., R.A., with Testimonies to his Genius and Memory, and Remarks on his Landscapes, to which are added various Observations respecting the Pleasure and Advantages to be derived from the Study of Nature and the Fine Arts. Collected and arranged by T. Wright, Esq.. It was published for the benefit of the Artists' Benevolent Fund. It is not exclusively about Wilson but contains 108 pages devoted to him in Part I, covering both published and unpublished material. In style it is prolix and repetitive but remains a useful though not entirely reliable early source of information on the artist and his works. For further information on Wright, see the biography, Wright of Upton. For details of his patronage of J.M.W. Turner, see C. Powell, 'A Neglected Turner Patron: Thomas Wright of Upton (1773-1845)', Turner Society News, No. 121, Spring 2014, pp. 21-24
