Organised by the British Council, the exhibition was the most important showing of British eighteenth-century painting in Canada and the USA to date. After Montreal it toured to the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; and Toledo Museum of Art, Ohio. It comprised 86 paintings, including six by Wilson:
