Two women are seen on the high bank of the Tiber in the foreground at the right, a cow stands in the water drinking at the centre and a boat is seen behind. There is a road meandering through trees at a higher level to the left and buildings stand at intervals on the opposite bank.

George Willis was an antiquarian book dealer, who occasionally published books and prints. His firm was active from 1832-1856 and sold many prints to the British Museum. In 1856 it merged with Thomas Sotheran to become Willis & Sotheran.
