Critical commentary
Probably a study for the log fire in the right foreground of P51 <span class="italic">Landscape with Banditti round a Tent</span>, National Museum Wales, Cardiff, painted in 1752 for the Earl of Wicklow. Wilson began to use grey paper for his drawings soon after his arrival in Rome, following the example of French artists there.
