A convent can be seen on an island on the Venetian lagoon with boats, boatmen and cattle.

The colour range and technique are totally at variance with those of Wilson

L'Anconetta is a small island near Marghera, close to Mestre, on which the church of Sta Maria dell'Anconetta was built. The church and its community were dependent on the Patriarch of Venice.

To outward appearances this seems to be a pastiche. However, in view of the Booth provenance it may have been repainted at an early date, as Constable believed. Numerous versions and variations of the composition indicate its popularity in Wilson's lifetime and later.
