In the background are massive ruins of a fortress or aqueduct with stone pines growing within the walls. There are cypress trees on the left and two figures silhouetted on a bank in the foreground, one seated. Three other figures are seen from behind further away, walking towards the ruins along a path leading in diagonally from the right.
