Francis Towne (1739-1816): The Lake of Nemi, watercolour, 1781, The British Museum (Nn,3.4). The view was painted by many British artists after Wilson, including Thomas Jones and William Pars.

The composition is closely based upon a drawing from Wilson's Italian period (see 'Related Drawings'). He painted a number of versions of the subject. This is one of pair, along with Capuchins at Gensano (location unknown)
