The title is speculative and the composition is atypical, suggesting, amongst other things, an early date

Richard and Catherine Garnons were children of Richard Garnons, brother of Catherine Jones of Colomendy Hall, a cousin of Wilson.
Dimensions with frame: 80 x 90 cm. Cleaned 1934 (National Gallery Report 1935). Not relined (1956). Cleaned, retouched, revarnished and marouflaged onto synthetic panel, December 1957 by B. Heineberg.
