Subject
Andernach, which must surely be intended here, is a town on the left bank of the River Rhine between the former tiny fishing village of Fornich in the north and the mouth of the small river Nette in the south east, about 13 miles (21 km) north of Koblenz. The Rhine here runs between two hills, the Krahnenberg - presumably that shown in the background - and the Engwetter on the right bank, from which the present view is taken.
Critical commentary
This drawing provides the only evidence that Wilson returned to England via Germany and the River Rhine.
