Biographical Details
Richard Ford was the eldest son of Sir Richard Ford (1758-1806) and Marianne Booth, Lady Ford (1767-1849). He was educated at Winchester and Oxford and then called to the Bar. In 1834, he bought Heavitree House, Devon, where he wrote his renowned Handbook for Travellers in Spain. He inherited a number of Wilson paintings and drawings. He also acquired D404 and possibly D22 and other Wilson drawings from the posthumous sale of William Lock 'of Norbury' at Sotheby's on 3 May 1821.
