    416 pp. with 414 monochrome plates. The book was edited and prepared for publication by Bowron from Clark's research and papers following his death in 1976. A second edition by Bowron was published in two volumes in 2016 by Yale University Press in association with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, London.
