    Biographical Details
    George O'Brien Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont, was a major patron, agriculturist and philanthropist. Born on 18 December 1751, he was the eldest son of Charles, the 2nd Earl and was educated at Westminster School, Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated on 30 June 1767. After his father died, he succeeded to the vast ancestral property including Petworth House, Sussex and a great collection of pictures and sculpture founded in the17th century. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society on 7 December 1797 and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on 3 April 1800. Egremont owned at least three paintings by Wilson:

    His later patronage and support of J.M.W. Turner is well known.
