Sir Peter Leicester, 4th baronet, remodelled his ancestral home, Tabley House, near Knutsford, Cheshire, following the designs of John Carr of York and 'improving' the grounds to the designs of Capability Brown between 1762 and 1769. He commissioned Wilson to paint Tabley around 1764-66 (see P126). He also owned a version of Apollo destroying the Children of Niobe (P90D). His son, Sir John Fleming Leicester, q.v., was created Lord de Tabley in 1826.
