Critical commentary
The composition is closely based upon a drawing from Wilson's Italian period (D221). He painted a number of versions of the subject. This may be one of pair, along with P72B Lake Nemi and Genzano from the Terrace of the Capuchin Monastery, Currier Art Museum, Manchester, New Hampshire, USA.
