Critical commentary
Described in Booth Notes Doc. 9 as '3 -- a Do. [View in Italy] Entrance to a Town do. [oval]'. Taken together with Booth's description of P229 the pendant, this seems to be evidence that the work was painted during Wilson's years in Italy (1750-57) and perhaps that it was executed en plein air.
