Critical commentary
This is a very freely worked compositional study. In the 1916
Burlington Fine Arts Club
catalogue, it was noted that the old mount bore a signature:
R. Wilson
, and that D 4664 could be compared with several Italian studies in the Dyce collection at South Kensington, in which similar tinted paper was employed. Such works include D361A
Landscape: Road winding past Ruins of a Castle
(DYCE.645).
