Michael 'Angelo' Rooker was a printmaker, watercolour painter and scene designer, the son of the engraver and actor, Edward Rooker (1724–1774). Michael Rooker was trained as an engraver by his father and as a draftsman by Paul Sandby, whose drawings of country houses he replicated as prints and who referred to him as Michael 'Angelo' as a joke (Wilson and Europe 2014, p. 324). Rooker made three prints for the seriesTwelve Original Views in Italy, as well completing E22 The Summit of Cader Idris Mountain after Wilson’s painting Llyn Cau, Cader Idris, published by Boydell in July 1775.
