Louis Huth, the son of Frederick Huth (1774-1864), was a
British art collector, dealer and patron of Aesthetic movement artists. His wife Helen was painted by George Frederic Watts, both before and after her marriage. Louis and Helen Huth were also depicted in magnificent marble portrait busts by Alexander Munro, both busts exhibited at the R.A. 1860 (nos 1041 and 986 respectively). Helen Huth was also painted by Whistler, in Arrangement in Black No. 2: Portrait of Mrs Louis Huth, Private Collection, and the Huths owned other works by Whistler. Following Louis Huth's death, his collection of pictures was sold at Christie's on 20 May 1905. It included watercolours by Gainsborough and Turner and paintings by Wilson, Hogarth, Gainsborough, Reynolds, Stubbs, Constable, George Morland, John Crome, William Etty and James Ward, as well as French paintings and old masters.
