    Wilson was distantly related to Sir Richard Grosvenor, created 1st Baron Grosvenor in 1761 and Earl Grosvenor in 1784, through the Mostyn family. Grosvenor lived at Eaton Hall, Cheshire and in 1760 probably commisssined and certainly owned P86 The River Dee near Eaton Hall, The Barber Institute of Fine Arts, University of Birmingham. His art collection also contained paintings by Benjamin West (including The Death of General Wolfe), Gainsborough and Stubbs.
