80 pp. & 48 black and white plates with texts. The original edition comprised 500 copies printed on hand-made paper and bore a dedication: 'To Sir Alfred Munnings, P.R.A., of the Great Brotherhood of English Painters, Admirer of Stubbs, Wilson and Constable, and of Nature, and Defender of the Splendid Tradition of Art.' The book contained some new material and critiqued some of the traditional sources but repeated long-standing errors and gave incomplete lists of Wilson's paintings and works on paper in public and private collections. See further, Wilson and Europe 2014, pp. 175, 177, fig.140, 184, n.16.
