    This magisterial work consists of two volumes in German: Bd. 1. Das malerische und zeichnerische Werk (1999, 648 pp.) and Bd. 2. Leben und Wirken (2003, 672 pp.), both profusely illustrated. Wilson is frequently mentioned, especially in relation to Mengs's portrait of him [NWP1], which features in vol. 1 as cat. 236.
