Critical commentary
This small panel seems to be a late reprise or souvenir of Wilson's many earlier paintings on the theme of a summer evening or on the River Arno. In his last years he had few resources for the purchase of materials and no patrons, a situation here reflected in the size and choice of support and rough quality of the paintwork. Despite these exigencies the painting has its special charm.
