Portrait of George III, when young, half-length looking to left, in laced coat, riband and star
Lettered below the image:
[1] With royal coat of arms: George / His Royal Highness / Prince of Wales / Born 24 May 1738 / O rerum et patriae solamen. Stat. /
[2] Lower left: Richd Wilson pinx.
[3] Lower right: Parente corrigente, facieb. Her. Jac. Tyroff
Nothing is known of the original painting, which must have been painted after Wilson's return from Italy in 1757 and before the Prince's accession as King in 1760. This would make the Prince about 20 years old. Tyroff himself would have been about 16 - hence the inscription that he engraved the image with corrections by his father (Martin Tyroff, b. 1704)
