Kate Lowry has noted:
Thick paper support, now discoloured brown, later stuck down onto oak panel. There is no ground, the colour of the paper forms the base colour in the dark areas. There is extensive under drawing visible in infra red light. The style of the underdrawing suggests this is indeed a sketch by Wilson.
