Critical commentary
Nothing is known of the original painting, which must have been painted after Wilson's return from Italy in 1757 and before the Prince's accession as King in 1760. This would make the Prince about 20 years old. Tyroff himself would have been about 16 - hence the inscription that he engraved the image with corrections by his father (Martin Tyroff, b. 1704)
