Techniques and materials
Thinly painted in areas, especially the sleeve of the coat. The hair is undifferentiated, rather block-like and bland. The line of the forehead is imprecise and there is a possible pentiment where it joins the hair. At the upper right the forehead has lost its cream glaze and is showing grey parallel diagonal hatching. There are short vertical non-descriptive brushstrokes in an area lower right just within the painted oval. There is a pentiment at the elbow of the coat. The neck and kerchief are stiffly painted but the buttons, frogging and lighting behind the head at the right are good.
