Biographical Details
Pierre-Charles Canot was a French engraver who moved to England c.1735 and lived in London from 1740. By 1755-56 he was established at the Golden Head, Chapel Street, Soho Square; by 1768 he had moved to Hampstead Road. He was elected ARA and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1770. He specialised in marine subjects but also produced E28 The Great Bridge over the Taaffe in South Wales after Wilson - one of the set, Six Views in North and South Wales, published by John Boydell in 1775. Impressions are located at the British Museum; National Museum Wales, Cardiff; Yale Center for British Art, New Haven and elsewhere.
