Duttenhofer was born at Gronau in Wurtemberg, Germany. He studied under Klengel at Dresden and is chiefly known for his landscapes after Claude, Poussin, Annibale Carracci and Paul Bril, and for various views in the Tyrol. He also copied William Woollett's and William Ellis's print of Solitude, after Wilson. This was published in 1802 (see E57).
