Subject
The town of Chioggia is situated on a small island at the southern entrance to the Lagoon of Venice about 25 kilometres (16 miles) south of Venice. Wilson visited it on his journey from Venice to Rome in 1751.
Critical commentary
This drawing represents the same subject as D23
A House at Chioggia
, Private Collection, England. The present work however is more detailed but lacks a third figure in the left. Brinsley Ford suggested that it was done on the spot and that Wilson later made the second, more simplified version of it.
