Critical commentary
This fragment is one of three ruined black chalk drawings summarily catalogued by Luke Herrmann in Walpole Society 1998-I, p. 73, RF105, RF 106 & RF107 - all 'certainly the remains of the work of Richard Wilson' but unmounted, torn or badly rubbed. The subject appears to be Lake Nemi (see Related Paintings).
