James Brydges acquired Minchenden House, Southgate, just north of London, through his marriage to Margaret Nicol in 1753 and became the 3rd Duke of Chandos in 1771. In about 1765-66 he bought P12C Caernarvon Castle with Anglesea in the Distance Private Collection, and then commissioned View from Muswell Hill with Minchenden House.
