George Salting was born of Danish parents in Sydney Australia. He left a major bequest to the National Gallery (see Patricia Rubin, 'The Outcry: Despoilers, Donors and the National Gallery in London, 1909' in Journal of the History of Collections, 2013, vol. 25, no. 2, pp. 253-275.) This included two works by Wilson: P58 The Baths of Ischia, near Naples and P97A A Summer Evening River View ('On the Arno') - II, both later transferred to Tate, London.
