    Description
21(v): Outline drawing of distant town and bridge beyond a curving riverbank and framing tree at the left
    22(r): blank
    Provenance
Oldfield Bowles; given to Sir George Beaumont, 1784; thence by descent until 1963, when sold to Paul Mellon
    Signature/inscription
    Unsigned; no inscription
    Subject
The site depicted remains uncertain. Clements noted the suggestions by Sir John Summerson and others of a view of St Paul's and the City of London from the west but the context of the sketchbook together with the mountains seen beyond and the rural foreground surely favour an Italian location or a capriccio as the subject.
