    Critical commentary
    The emptiness of the landscape and its cloudy sky led to it being regarded as a Welsh scene for a time.

    More Information
    This painting is first recorded as having belonged to William Parsons (1736-95), a well-known actor and comedian, known as 'Roscius'. According to Booth, who acquired the painting in about 1790, he owned several Wilsons.
