    Biographical Details
    Thomas Lowinsky was a painter of portraits and fantasy scenes, book illustrator, designer of papers, textiles and collector. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, 1912-14. His first solo exhibition was at the Leicester Galleries in 1924. He illustrated Edith Sitwell's Elegy on Dead Fashion and other books. After his death exhibitions were held at Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield (1981) and Tate Galler (1990). His work is held in the Tate Gallery, Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Lowinsky was a friend of Paul Mellon and owned the Wilson drawings below, which are now in the collection at the Yale Center for British Art.
