    Biographical Details
David Davies of Llandinam was a Liberal politician and public benefactor. Grandson of David Davies (1818-1890), a major Victorian Welsh industrialist, he was brother of the well-known collectors Gwendoline and Margaret Davies of Gregynog Hall. Educated at King's College, Cambridge, he entered the House of Commons aged 26 as Liberal member for Montgomeryshire, resigning his seat in 1929. In World War I, he raised and commanded the 14th Battalion, the Royal Welsh Fusiliers until 1916, when he was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to David Lloyd George. He was created 1st Baron Davies in 1932 and for many years was President of University College at Aberystwyth and President and patron of the National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth. See further: I.
