Landscape with two figures conversing with a monk on the shore of a lake in the foreground beside an open antique coffin. A third man is seen pulling a net out of the water to the left. There is a fishing boat beyond, with ruins in the centre across the water, a castle on the hill in the background and a tree framing the scene on the left.

    Critical commentary
Perhaps an abandoned trial impression of a first idea. Unlike E16 the composition is in the same orientation as P122 and the other painted versions.

    Condition/Conservation
Unfinished, e.g. the face of the monk in the centre. Flattened vertical fold about 2 3/4 in. from the right. Needs surface clean.
